GeekWire Calendar Picks: Celebrate the cloud at CloudNativeCon; GeekWire Radio Live at Fred Hutch; and more

cloud-native-conThe Seattle region may be known as the birthplace of Microsoft Windows and the seat of Amazon’s e-commerce empire, but the city is less well-known around the world for its incredible, even revolutionary work in cloud computing.

That work will be concentrated in a hive of activity next week at CloudNativeCon and KubeCon, two national conferences co-located in downtown Seattle.

Sponsored by the Linux Foundation and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, these events draw together communities working on disparate, but not unrelated, elements of the cloud ecosystem and provide a place to organize around cloud native computing.

The conferences both take place Nov. 8-9 at the Sheraton in downtown Seattle. Check out more info and ticket options for CloudNativeCon here, and KubeCon here. If you can’t make it, watch for coverage on GeekWire next week.

That’s one of the selections from the GeekWire Calendar, our curated list of the Pacific Northwest’s top tech events. Keep reading and visit the full calendar for more.

This is a fun one! At the event, 10 young entrepreneurs from Latin America and the Caribbean will pitch their business plans to a panel of local judges. All the presenters are taking part in President Obama’s Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative, and the winner of this fast pitch will go on to present at the YLAI Entrepreneurship Summit in Washington, DC. We had the chance to meet these young innovators when they toured the GeekWire office, and can’t wait to see what they pitch.

This is a chance to see behind the scenes at GeekWire, as editors John Cook and Todd Bishop interview Dr. Olson about this and other breakthroughs in cancer research that lie in nature — and, as always, audience prizes abound.

When: Nov. 10, 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
