Siren, the 2015 GeekWire App of the Year, will get another platform on which to share its intriguing story as the company will be featured on an upcoming episode of the PBS television series “Start Up.”

The dating app was founded by Susie Lee and Katrina Hess in 2014 as an alternative to sites such as Tinder and Match.com because it relies on conversation as a starting point rather than long profiles or photo surfing. The app promotes discovery, safety and respect and uses a “Question of the Day” as a means of making a connection. Siren raised $ 500,000 in funding this spring.

“Start Up” film crews will visit Seattle May 25-28 to shoot at Siren as well as two other businesses — Nikki Closer Photography and Salare Restaurant in the Ravenna neighborhood. An air date for the program has not been determined.

“The west coast is rich with entrepreneurship, and I believe that the businesses that we are featuring in places like Seattle, Portland, San Francisco Bay Area, Oakland, Los Angeles and San Diego all exemplify what it means to see your dream turn into success,” Gary Bredow, the host and creator, said in a news release.
